Teesside's first official HYROX affiliate
HYROX is a fitness race run in arenas around the world: eight one-kilometre runs, each followed by a workout station such as the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Mas Body Gym was the first gym in Teesside to become an official HYROX affiliate, which means we train on the official equipment, in the official formats, with qualified coaches. Mike Hind MBE is a HYROX Academy Level 1 and 2 coach and Ashleigh is a HYROX Academy Level 1 coach.
You do not need to have a race booked. Most people in the classes are training for fitness, fat loss and the buzz of a coached group session. Every workout scales, so a complete beginner and a sub-90-minute racer can train in the same class.
See the HYROX area kit, meet the coaches or compare memberships.

Boxing rounds and step work in one high-energy class: pad and bag combinations mixed with step intervals for conditioning, coordination and a big calorie burn. No boxing experience needed. Thursday 5pm. Included in Gym + Unlimited Classes.
Coached, not just counted
There is a difference between someone running a class and someone coaching you to race. Mike Hind MBE is a HYROX Academy Level 1 and 2 coach and every session here is taught, not just timed.
Technique on every station. How to set your hands and hips on the sled push so you drive with your legs instead of your arms, how to pull hand over hand and step back with the sled instead of leaning into it, how to throw a wall ball from the legs and catch it high so you can keep the rhythm, and how to lunge with a sandbag without your back taking the session.
Race craft. How to pace the first two runs so the last two stations do not fall apart, when to break the wall balls into sets, how to come out of a station and settle your breathing in the first hundred metres, and what to do when the plan goes wrong on the day.
Doubles, properly. How to split the work, where to stand, and how to swap the sandbag and the kettlebells cleanly so you are not losing seconds on every changeover. Most doubles teams lose more time in transitions than on the stations.
Race rules. What counts as a rep, what gets you sent back to redo one, and the things that catch people out at their first race. You will know the standards before you stand on the start line.
Everyone scales. A first-timer and someone chasing a personal best can be in the same class, on the same stations, working at their own level.
We are a Myzone affiliated club. Wear a Myzone belt in class and your heart-rate zones and effort show live on the screens in the HYROX area, so you can see whether you are pacing a session or coasting, and your MEPs (Myzone Effort Points) are logged in the Myzone app.
How our HYROX membership compares
Prices below were checked on each gym's own website on 20 September 2026. Mas Body Gym: £54.95 a month for unlimited HYROX and fitness classes plus full use of the gym seven days a week and the recovery room, or £12 a class pay as you go. Other gyms locally charge £70 a month for classes only, £90 a month for classes plus gym access. Budget chains such as PureGym start from £15.99 a month but do not run coached HYROX sessions at that site.
If you want coached HYROX training and a full strength gym on one membership, Mas Body is the lowest-priced option in Teesside that we know of, and the only one here with a recovery room included. Membership is rolling with no contract and no joining fee.
HYROX and class questions
HYROX is a fitness race that combines eight one-kilometre runs with eight workout stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Events are held in arenas around the world and you can enter as an individual, in doubles or as a relay team. New to it? Read Mike's guide to starting HYROX.
Yes. Mas Body Gym is an official HYROX affiliate, the first in Teesside, and trains on official HYROX equipment. Mike Hind MBE is a HYROX Academy Level 1 and 2 coach and Ashleigh is a HYROX Academy Level 1 coach.
Yes. Every class scales to the person in front of the coach. Beginners work at their own pace on the same stations. Tell Mike it is your first session and he will set you up.
No. Non-members can join any HYROX class for £12, or buy four for £40, in our online shop. Doing six or more HYROX classes a month? Six classes on pay as you go cost £64 (a four-pack plus two single classes), so the Gym + Unlimited Classes membership at £54.95 a month works out cheaper, and it also includes every other class, full use of the gym and the recovery room.
Classes are booked through ClubRight, the same system used for memberships. On Gym + Unlimited Classes, click Book a class, log in and choose your session. Not a member? Three steps: check the class has a space on the ClubRight timetable, buy a class in our online shop (HYROX £12 or four for £40, other classes £6.50), then book your place with it. Popular classes fill up, so book early. Members book from the ClubRight app on their phone.
It is coached. Mike teaches technique on every station, race pacing, transitions, and how to swap the sandbag and kettlebells in doubles. You are taught how to race, not just put through a workout.
The official ones. Our sleds, wall balls, sandbags and kettlebells are official HYROX kit, so you train on race weights: wall balls 4kg, 6kg or 9kg, sandbags 10kg, 20kg or 30kg, kettlebells 16kg, 24kg or 32kg, and the sleds loaded to your division. If you are new, Mike scales you and builds you up to the official weight for your division.
This is the question Mike gets asked most. The weight for a division is the whole sled, not the plates on it. The sled on its own is 25kg. The push sled has four arms at 6.25kg each, so it is 50kg empty; the pull sled has no arms, so it stays at 25kg. Everything on top is plates: 25kg plates plus one small plate, 2kg on the push and 3kg on the pull. So a Men's Open sled push of 152kg is 50kg of sled and arms, four 25kg plates and a 2kg plate. Men's Pro at 202kg is the same sled with six 25kg plates.
No. You can run on the treadmills in the HYROX area and set the pace you want to hold, which is the best way to learn race pace. If you would rather be outside, there is a one-kilometre loop from the gym door that we use for sims.
Yes. As an official HYROX affiliate gym, Mas Body gets early access to HYROX race tickets before they go on general sale. Each race has its own early access code, and we share it with members in the members' area as soon as we receive it, so you can book your race and start time before general sale opens.
Yes. Mas Body Gym is a Myzone affiliated club. The Myzone screens around the gym floor and the HYROX area show your live effort and heart-rate zones while you train, and everything is saved in the Myzone app. Members can buy a Myzone belt in the members' shop for £30 less than Myzone's own price, and we set it up for you at the desk.
Yes, and most people in the classes are not. It is one of the best all-round sessions you can do: running, pulling, pushing, carrying and squatting in one hour, and it scales to whatever level you are at.
No. Come on your own. If you want to train doubles, tell Mike and he will pair you up in the session and coach the changeovers, which is where most doubles teams lose their time.
At Mas Body Gym on Metcalfe Road, Skippers Lane Industrial Estate, Middlesbrough TS6 6PT, about seven minutes from Middlesbrough town centre and fourteen from Stockton, Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick. HYROX classes run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.
Enough carbohydrate to fuel the running and enough protein to recover. Macro Based Diet, on the same site as the gym, cooks high-carb performance meals and high-protein options and Mas Body members get 15% off.
